Women’s lives – Marcia Griffiths Llyneth.

Hey you,

It has been a while since we last spoke about our new series here.

Last time, we talked about Marielle Franco.

Today, I want us to share more about a woman that is so special to me and the music career she has given to us, all this while.

Her name is, “Marcia Griffiths Llyneth”!

If there is a woman I fail to describe or speak about, it is Marcia here!

Sometimes, I like saying that she is a living legend.

But we will agree that she is way more than that!

She was born in 1949 and begun giving us her life on stage in 1964.

A few years later,

She was already on her solo career!

She “bruk” with some duets like “Oh My Darling” with the late Bob Marley, “Always Together” with the late Bob Andy, “Words” with Jeff Dixon among others.

How this queen of mine has never won a Grammy Award till today yet Koffee bagged the first for women,

I am yet to fully take that in!

(You may want to read this, about awards).

Have you heard of the very famous quartet, “I-Three”?

It was made in 1974, made of Rita Marley, Marcia here and Judd Mowatt.

These girls used to back up the famous “The Wailers”, that was made of the lates Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer!

Can you imagine that?

For those of us who still remember their dancing instructions and steps well,

The name “Electric Boogie” isn’t new at all.

That is because Bunny Wailer sang this song first.

It didn’t hit so much till Marcia re-recorded it and it became what it is today.

This song reached number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100, making it her most successful single.

It is currently the highest-selling single by a female reggae singer of all time!

It is good to know that back home in Jamaica,

She has been ordained a rank of service (“Order of Distinction”), as tokens of appreciation for her contribution to building Jamaica.

That rank is usually designated for outstanding citizens that have greatly impacted the lives of Jamaicans in Jamaica and all over the world.
