Who was Rick Rescorla?

Rick Rescorla was the man who disobeyed direct orders not to move further into the World Trade Centre.
With that course of action, he saved the lives of more than 2,687 people, on the 11th of September 2001!

Only 13 employees of Morgan Stanley, including him didn’t make it successfully out of the building premises.
But did you know that this man was living terminally with bone marrow cancer?

Did you also know that 8 years before 2001,
Mr. Cyril here was vice president for corporate security at Dean Witter Morgan Stanley and he led the company’s evacuation that day?
Convinced that the terrorists would return, Rescorla created and stringently rehearsed a disaster contingency plan for the company, colleagues and family said.

Indeed, when that day came to pass,
He had his bullhorn ready with him and a very famous song named “God Bless America”!
Guess which floor he was at, on that day in 2001; the 44th floor!

According to “Drive Thru History”,
Rick worked as a security officer for Morgan Stanley, the largest tenant in the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
His prior experience in military intelligence made him concerned about vulnerabilities at the World Trade Center complex.
Beginning in 1997, Rick Rescorla delivered numerous reports about his security concerns, including possible attacks by planes being crashed into the buildings.
He even suggested that Morgan Stanley leave New York City and relocate to New Jersey where it was safer and cheaper.
The company couldn’t leave the city, so Rick turned to training the employees in safety and evacuation drills instead.

I hope looking back at that day,
His sacrifices and those of numerous other people weren’t in vain!
The story of this man Rick Rescorla really caught my heart but also, has got me thinking about a lot of things in life!
