Hey you,
I have a question to ask you, who is reading this blog post:
Are we ready for the next pandemic?

What COVID-19 did was horrible, obviously but….
It was only a tip of what the famous “plague” did in its days!

Karachi is a port in the province of Sind (now [1996] Pakistan). It was placed in quarantine in 1882, during the outbreak of bubonic plague which spread from Bombay. The Plague Committee consisted mostly of volunteers, who were organised into parties and were responsible for the segregation and inoculation of various districts
Contained in an album of photographs which show the work of the Karachi Plague Committee in 1897

Shall we be fortunate enough to receive something that looks like a vaccine, before we are buried or burned altogether?
Shall the hospital structures have enough beds for us, when that time comes?

Will we need to be locked down again?
Shall we go sleepless, with so much anxiety in our minds and hearts?

Most of all, can the next pandemic alert us all via email and the radio?
We need to pack a bag and get set, on our marks and then, go!

That’s a good question. I think the last pandemic made people more resilient in the sense that we worked together to get us back to where we are today. But in terms of surviving another pandemic, I am not sure that the world is ready for one. At least not mentality. With everything going on in the world as of late, I am going to say that worrying about another pandemic is not on people’s mind.

I haven’t even considered another pandemic. My family already has plans in place of where to meet and what we will do if we need to meet up, whether pandemic, war, or other disaster.
The last “pandemic” didn’t produce a vaccine, but a mRNA technology. No, I wouldn’t like to see another repeat.
I think we’re probably as read as we’ll ever be so long as we have people in power who make good decisions.
Good question! I studied medicine in college in the 90’s, and even then the cdc was preparing. What we saw with covid was the result of decades of pre-planning. Much was learned from this pandemic, but another big one is still on the books.
The Covid pandemic took a toll on the people because it came out of nowhere but it we prepare for a possible pandemic I believe we would take it so much better and faster in terms of adapting to it.
