Q1. Are you a criminal?
Q2. What are you hiding?
Q3. Why are you hiding?
Q4. Are you okay with your business being seen by everybody?
I was triggered to write this piece
By an article, I read last week about events happening in Uganda as we speak
And my mind was taken back to reflecting about how much the system knows about you, me, and them….everybody!
And by the system, I mean….you know
The big Unwanted Witness…
Corporations, governments, individuals all collude
Take it upon them to watch our each and every move
All in the name of “protecting” us and “our property”
But when it gets down to asking the real questions, you wonder, “are they really doing what they said they are?”
Billions of money is “borrowed” ….at least, that’s what they call it
From who understands where…
To buy super-advanced “toys” and software
Meant for “looking into things” that no one is supposed to
Like our cellphones, our calendars, our online lives and activity, our family and friends
Now, I am hoping that you know your rights as far this space of your life is concerned, eeh
Something that has to do with authorizing them to look into your life has to be asked of you, without being coerced
Or tricked
Or otherwise
I don’t know if you have received any of that
I don’t know about you but I for one
Have never ever authorized any of this
And I am damn sure that as we speak, I am being monitored
That goes for you, too
Nobody is ever really that safe or special that they can’t be dug into
I want you to draw back to the very first set of questions which opened up this piece
Read each of them carefully
Do you see anything?
Criminal or not,
Guilty or not,
Friend or enemy,
Citizen or not,
Known or unknown….we all deserve some respect!
Where we are not walking with “targets on our back”
Where we can be asked for our permission for something without having to be harassed
Where we can be trusted to make decisions for ourselves as regards our privacy and safety
Where we can be free to live and co-exist with whoever we want in our space
Away from the ears and eyes of the unwanted witness
Privacy is definitely a serious issue in the 21st century. I wonder if there are any citizen action groups that you know or might recommend that work on privacy rights?
Oh yeah….there are many of them all over the world. In Uganda, we have one called “Unwanted Witness”.
wow, very interesting! Never thought about it this way.
??? I’m glad you do now.
I have heard a lot about this type of monitoring from various agencies. I didn’t want to believe it, but, the more I read up on it, it seems to be a fact. Scary stuff!
?????
Lately, I feel like privacy is fast becoming a thing of the past. There is just too much meta data and tracking and cookies out there.
Yyyyeeeaaahhhhh…..and often in time, all this data is misused.
Snooping which itself is a crime is taking place all around us without us being aware. Are we losing our freedom to those who themselves are expected to protect us is the big question now.
?? we, the users, are on a losing end, everyday!
It seems like every move we make is being watched these days. Privacy is a thing of the past it seems!
??? it’s just terrible.
That’s why I feel quite uncomfortable sometimes online. You got that feeling that someone is watching what you’re doing. This is an eye opener.
??????I’m glad you picked it up.
It’s so crazy how much personal info is out there and how it could be used. I’ve definitely become less active on social media because of it.
Aaaahhhh…it’s so crazy! It’s like we are becoming more anti-social, with every single day that goes by.
These things sounds so scary.. Ugh… I wish I could be more careful with everything.. Haha
?? well, you can. Adopt the Rastafarian lifestyle….no phones, no television….just the highlands and fresh air.
Privacy is absolutely a huge issue in this day and age. With all the technological advancement, we’ve lost a lot of privacy. It’s absolutely unfortunate.
….and disgusting, too!
very interesting and alarming at the same time. i wish you could write more about this. like ways on how we are being monitored everyday and the likes. id be reading that entry once available. would you mind? 🙂
Cha at Little MisadvenCHA
Aaaahhhhh….thats a good idea. I will look into it.
Data Privacy is really important. I hope that people take it seriously. We should also be cautious on what we are sharing.
????
It is such a tough one this. We want to be protected, but our privacy is also super important xx
?? I kknnooowwww, right?
It makes me feel awkward when I think about agencies that can monitor us at any time. It’s important to be vigilant online.
?? it’s so heartbreaking!
Quite an interesting read and I’ve heard a lot about this topic too. It’s quite scary how easy it is for one to snoop on your personal data these days.
You kkknnnooowwwwww! It’s like you are minding your business one minute and somebody else is all over your business, the other minute. So scary!!!
Technology has its good and bad qualities. I love the convenience it provides but I am scared of some not so good individuals lurking in cyberspace, waiting for a chance to pounce upon you.
?? it’s so ?
In exchange for all the convenience technology can provide, the downside of it is that we have this fear of invasion of privacy. I keep reminding my children to be responsible whenever they get online. Once they have put something out there in cyberspace, it stays there forever!
???? I love you for that.
